Hello. I am Park Seong-joon Chief of Intellectual Property Trial and Appeal Board.
First of all I sincerely congratulate on the launch of WIPNEWS a long-awaited project by the National Promotion Committee for the World Intellectual Property (IP) Hub of Korea.
Since its establishment in 2013 Koreas National Promotion Committee for the World Intellectual Property (IP) Hub has made great efforts to improve the legislation and system related to intellectual property rights in order to shift Korea as a worldwide hub among countries in the field of intellectual property. Taking this opportunity I would like to express my deep appreciation for the efforts that the National Promotion Committee for the World Intellectual Property (IP) Hub has shown.
In order for Korea to become a true hub of intellectual property around the world it is urgent to establish a legal and institutional environment in which intellectual property can be strongly protected. Fortunately Korea has implemented a triple compensation system for infringement of patent rights since July last year through cooperation between the Korean Intellectual Property Office and the National Promotion Committee for the World Intellectual Property (IP) Hub. Through the passage of a law it became possible to require compensation for damages even for the sale of products by patent infringers exceeding the patentees productive capacity. The worlds strongest patent right protection system has been established in Korea. Korea can be evaluated as laying the foundation to become a hub of intellectual property in the world.
Under such circumstances WIPNEWS plays a role in selecting Koreas major news about intellectual property and spreading it to the world through media to the world and providing major news about intellectual property from the world and translate in Korean. It is expected to make a great contribution to Korea to grow as a hub in the filed of intellectual property.
