The Intersection of Artificial Intelligence and the Film Industry – What Do the Youth Think?
The First Youth Culture Forum of 2024 Held on July 18 at the Daejeon Seo-gu Cultural Center Art Hall
The Ministry of Culture Sports and Tourism (Minister Yoo In-chon hereinafter referred to as MCST) will host the first Youth Culture Forum of 2024 on Thursday July 18 at 2 p.m. at the Daejeon Seo-gu Cultural Center Art Hall. The forum will focus on the theme Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Film Industry: Crisis or Opportunity? Approximately 150 young people including aspiring filmmakers university students interested in AI and the film industry the MCST 2030 Advisory Committee youth advisors and young interns will gather to discuss the various opportunities challenges and future possibilities that the intersection of AI and film presents.
The Youth Culture Forum held throughout the year aims to understand the perceptions of the younger generation on various policies of the MCST and to gather their opinions. This year under the slogan Weaving the Thread of Youth the forum plans to capture the essence of youth culture and focus on the lives of young people by integrating their infinite potential and dreams. Following the first forum the second and third forums will be held in September and November respectively to continue communication with the youth.
Keynote Speakers: AI Film Festival Award Winner and AI Book Author
The first forum will feature lectures by Director Kwon Han-seul who won the Grand Prize and Audience Award at the 1st Dubai International AI Film Festival and Professor Kim Jae-in from Kyung Hee Universitys Institute of Cross-Cultural Studies author of AI Big Bang: Generative AI and the Renaissance of the Humanities. Director Kwon will discuss cases of using AI in film production and future prospects for the K-content industry while Professor Kim will cover the overall situation of the AI industry and the positive and negative impacts of generative AI technology.
Panel Discussion and Networking
Following the lectures a panel discussion will take place. Song Tae-min Director of Hidden Brain Institute will moderate the discussion joined by Jeon Byung-won Director of Future Film Institute and Professor Jung Chan-chul from Pukyong National Universitys Department of Media and Communication Studies. They will exchange diverse opinions on the impact of AI on film creation collaboration cases and the future of AI films.
After the panel discussion a networking discussion and Q&A session will be held allowing all participants to share their thoughts and hear the perspectives of young people on the film industry.
Pre-Event Activities and Performances
Prior to the forum there will be pre-event activities such as an AI photo booth and an AI music composition program experience center. Attendees will also enjoy a celebratory performance by the a cappella group Narin actively performing on the Youth Microphone* stage.
*The Youth Microphone program provides performance opportunities on Culture Day to talented and passionate young artists in South Korea helping them nurture their dreams and grow into professional artists.
