Captivating the World with Korean Art in Paris Full of Olympic Fever

The Ministry of Culture Sports and Tourism (Minister Yoo In-chon) will host a series of diverse performances and exhibitions including contemporary dance and ballet by national art organizations and media art and crafts exhibitions from July 23 to September 14 in various locations in Paris coinciding with the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics and Paralympics.

These events are part of the Korea Season which aims to continue the momentum of showcasing Korean culture in France following intensive cultural introductions in cities like Paris Avignon and Nantes since May.

Performances and Exhibitions for the Paris Olympics:

On July 23 and 24 the National Contemporary Dance Company will perform Jungle at the 13th arrondissement theatre showcasing the intense clash of instinct and vitality through creative movements.
From July 26 for a month the Grand Palais Immersif will host the media art exhibition Decoding Korea exploring Koreas contemporary history and society through artistic cultural and historical contexts.
On July 28 and 29 the National Ballet Company will perform a special gala at the Korea House (Maison de la Chimie) presenting classical ballet and creative works combining ballet and traditional Korean music.
The Korea House will operate from July 25 to August 11 to support the Korean athletes participating in the Olympics and promote Korean culture.

Exhibitions for the Paris Paralympics:

From September 2 to 11 the Art Para exhibition at the OECD headquarters will showcase over 100 works by 80 artists with developmental disabilities from 30 countries including 25 pieces by award-winning Korean artist Kim Geun-tae.
From September 5 to 14 during Paris Design Week the Korea Craft & Design Foundation will collaborate with French luxury furniture brand Liaigre to present traditional and modern Korean crafts. The exhibition will feature 51 works by 16 world-class Korean craftsmen including Dahye Jeong the winner of the 2022 Loewe Craft Prize.
Minister Yoo In-chon emphasized the significance of the Olympics returning to Paris after 100 years and the opportunity to experience the event in person post-COVID-19. He expressed hope that visitors from around the world will be captivated by the diverse facets of Korean art from national art troupe performances to media art and crafts exhibitions as well as artworks by artists with disabilities.
