Its Science that Cats Are Cute! National Museum of Korea Hosts Nyanyang Symposium
National Museum of Korea Holds Event Examining Cats Scientifically for World Cat Day on August 8
The National Museum of Korea (Director Kwon Seok-min) will hold the ‘Nyanyang Symposium’ event on Saturday August 3 in celebration of World Cat Day.
The ‘Nyanyang Symposium’ is the first event held at the museum to mark World Cat Day on August 8. This event consists of lectures and various activities that scientifically examine cats and anyone who loves cats can attend for free without prior reservation. However the Cat Drawing Workshop and Pet Food Nutrition and Cat Cake Making sessions are paid events and some workshops and photo contest entries are already closed.
The symposium program includes:
Nyangsuldae: lectures by distinguished scholars in various fields
Nyang Butler Workshop: hands-on programs for cat guardians
Nyang Story: cultural performances and special lectures by cat veterinarians
Nyangnyang Lounge: a space for exhibiting and selling cat-themed content
Nyangsuldae features lectures interpreted from the perspectives of physics chemistry brain science biology and archaeology such as A Physical Examination of the Liquid State Theory of Cats (Professor Kim Bum-jun) and Why Do Cats Love Catnip? (Professor Jang Hong-je). Nyang Butler Workshop includes engaging programs for cat owners like the Why Does My Cat Do That? discussion. Additionally the Nyangnyang Lounge will exhibit and sell high-quality works products and books by various creators. Finally the symposium will conclude with Nyang Story which includes the Failed Cat Photos World Cup a performance by singer Yoon Seong-gi and a lecture by veterinarian Lee Jin-soo.
Kwon Seok-min Director of the National Museum of Korea stated “We hope this will be an opportunity to approach science through the charming existence of cats.” He added “Just as the National Museum of Korea successfully held the ‘Dinosaur Enthusiast Expo’ in June we will strive to become a ‘Mecca for Enthusiasts’ where people can interpret understand discuss observe and explore what they love through science.”
