On August 1st the second day of the 79th Annual Conference of the Korean Association of Biological Sciences held at the Jeju International Convention Center the Korea National Arboretum (KNA) hosted a special session titled Biodiversity and the Role and Future of Bioblitz.
This session aimed to reflect on the achievements of Bioblitz Korea now in its 15th year and to explore new challenges and changes moving forward.
The session began with a keynote presentation by Han Sang-guk Forestry Research Officer at KNA titled Highlighting the Achievements and Directions of Bioblitz Korea which reviewed the results and developmental direction of biodiversity exploration over the past 14 years. Following this Jeong Ji-woong from the Gyeonggi Environment & Energy Agency presented on Operation of Gyeonggi-do Bioblitz and Park Bi-ho from the social cooperative Han River discussed the Biodiversity Jinchon Project.
Shin Hyun-tak Director of the Forest Biodiversity Research Division at KNA stated Bioblitz Korea is a biodiversity exploration program that our Korea National Arboretum first introduced to Korea and has since spread to various local governments and organizations. We will use the discussions from this special session to evolve Bioblitz Korea into a new program that not only involves citizen participation in biodiversity monitoring but also fosters professional citizen scientists and incorporates corporate ESG activities.
