‘Dream Art Troupe’ Gathers for Unity at the ‘Dream Festival’

‘Dream Festival’ to be Held Across Gangwon Province from August 4-9

The Ministry of Culture Sports and Tourism (Minister Yoo In-chon) and the Korea Arts & Culture Education Service (President Park Eun-sil) will host the first-ever ‘Dream Festival’ from August 4 to 9. This event uniting ‘Dream Art Troupes’ from across the country will take place in various locations in Gangwon Province including Gangneung Jeongseon and Pyeongchang.

Dream Art Troupe: A Korean adaptation of Venezuela’s free music education program ‘El Sistema’ for low-income children and youth developed into a cultural arts education model.
The Ministry supports the ‘Dream Art Troupe’ a flagship cultural arts education brand for children and youth. Starting with the ‘Dream Orchestra’ in 2010 the support expanded to include the ‘Dream Dance Troupe’ in 2022 and the ‘Dream Theater Troupe’ this year. At the ‘Dream Theater Troupe’ ambassador appointment ceremony on July 16 Minister Yoo announced “After the ‘Pyeongchang Daegwallyeong Music Festival’ in early August we will host a ‘Dream Art Troupe Joint Camp’ where art troupe members from across the country can interact receive education from world-renowned artists and perform together.”

The ‘Dream Festival’ will feature a variety of events under the theme ‘A Journey of Dreams United by Art’ including outreach performances workshops with international artists a joint camp and a joint performance.

Outreach Performance on August 4 and Workshops with International Artists on August 5-6

The festival will kick off with an outreach performance on August 4 at Jumunjin Beach in Gangneung for the local community. Members of the Dream Orchestra ‘Pyeongchang’ Dream Dance Troupe ‘Gangneung’ and five young artists who participated in the Pyeongchang Festival Orchestra at the ‘Pyeongchang Daegwallyeong Music Festival’ will collaborate to present a diverse artistic stage combining music and dance.

On August 5 and 6 workshops with renowned international artists in the dance field will be held. At the Jeongseon Indoor Gymnasium the Morales Company from Germany will conduct dance classes and Ákos Hargitay from Hungary will lead workshops at the Dream Saimdang Art Center in Gangneung for about 100 children and youth interested in dance from across the country.

Joint Camp (August 7-9) with Violinist Danny Koo and Ambiguous Dance Company’s Kim Bo-ram as Artistic Directors

From August 7 to 9 approximately 450 members and officials from 14 base institutions of the ‘Dream Orchestra’ and ‘Dream Dance Troupe’ will gather at Yongpyong Resort in Pyeongchang for the joint camp. Starting with the opening ceremony the camp will include exchange workshops to promote unity integrated arts programs to evoke immersion and enjoyment through art and culminate in a joint performance. Violinist Danny Koo and Kim Bo-ram director of the Ambiguous Dance Company known for their collaborative and adventurous artistic endeavors will participate as music and dance directors respectively.

The ‘Dream Festival’ will conclude with a joint performance. All participating ‘Dream Art Troupe’ members and artistic directors will become the stars of the show expressing their passion for art and the skills they learned during the joint camp at the Pyeongchang Alpensia Music Tent.
