Imagination Realized Ideas Shaping the Future - A Family-Friendly Defense Science and Technology Experience Fair
The Defense Acquisition Program Administration Hosts the 8th Defense Science and Technology Fair August 1-3 at the aT Center in Yangjae Seoul
The Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA Commissioner Seok Jong-geon) is hosting the 8th Defense Science and Technology Fair from August 1 to 3 at the aT Center in Yangjae Seoul under the theme “Imagination Realized Ideas Shaping the Future.” This event is designed to allow participants to directly experience how creative and challenging ideas of the Fourth Industrial Revolution era are realized into the future.
This year’s fair will showcase the core defense science and technology developments of K-Defense and host contests and start-up competitions involving military personnel businesspeople students and the general public. Additional activities include a defense science and technology conference and special lectures.
The exhibition hall will feature permanent booths on future defense core technologies civil-military technology cooperation domestic defense companies and models of advanced weapon systems. To engage students and families visiting during the summer break the fair will offer various hands-on programs including:
Weapon system assembly block building
T-50 advanced trainer paper glider assembly and flying
Drone soccer stadium
Shooting simulation
The start-up competition will involve small business owners prospective entrepreneurs and university (including graduate) students who will develop commercialization ideas using defense technologies. There will also be a brick model-making and webtoon idea contest themed My Vision of Future Weapon Systems open to elementary middle high school and university students.
The Future Defense Core Technology Conference will see participation from military personnel academia industry researchers and experts sharing achievements in AI space and hybrid unmanned technologies preparing for future battlefield scenarios. A special session the 2nd Defense AAM Forum will focus on establishing an Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) ecosystem in the defense sector.
On August 3 (Saturday) for students and general participants renowned defense influencers such as specialist reporter Lee Se-hwan and author Kwak Jae-sik will deliver a special lecture titled Defense Science and Technology for Everyone covering the latest war trends and technology developments.
The opening ceremony will feature welcome remarks by DAPA Commissioner Seok Jong-geon congratulatory messages from National Defense Committee Chairman Seong Il-jong and National Research Council of Science & Technology (NST) Chairman Kim Bok-chul followed by a keynote speech on defense strategy in the AI era by Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) President Lee Kwang-hyung and an awards ceremony for outstanding entries in the idea contest.
National Defense Committee Chairman Seong Il-jong emphasized “The achievements of Korea’s self-reliant defense and K-Defense are the result of advancements in defense science and technology and research and development efforts.” Commissioner Seok Jong-geon expressed hope that “Many citizens will participate in the 8th Defense Science and Technology Fair to witness the excellence of our defense science and technology that is shaping the future and enjoy various programs with their families.”
