The Ministry of Culture Sports and Tourism (Minister Yu In-chon) together with the Korean Publishing Culture Industry Promotion Agency (Director Kim Jun-hee) will host events featuring K-Book authors at the Korea House (Maison de la Chimie) during the 2024 Paris Olympics on August 6th (Tuesday) and 7th (Wednesday). The events will include live painting performances discussions between Korean and French literary authors and K-Book lectures to enhance global interest in Korean publishing content.

Live Painting by Kihoon Lee August 6-7: Demonstrating Masquerade Series

Picture book author Kihoon Lee will hold live painting performances on August 6th (Tuesday) and 7th (Wednesday) from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM at the Korea House mini-theater where he will demonstrate his Masquerade series. Lee is known for considering both the final image and the process and time of creation as integral parts of his artwork expanding the meaning and narrative. The Masquerade series has already garnered millions of views on social media. During the live performance Lee will showcase his unique and original artistic world accompanied by music prepared by music director and DJ Hwang Jae-ho* who is based in London and Seoul and was selected as one of the 12 rising artists by DJ Mag in 2021.

Panel Discussion on The Mystery of Being Human with Authors Yoon Go-eun Baek Soo-rin and Bernard Minier on August 6

Korean authors Yoon Go-eun and Baek Soo-rin along with French author Bernard Minier will participate in a discussion on The Mystery of Being Human on August 6th from 5:45 PM. The panel will explore the deep and enigmatic aspects of humanity that artificial intelligence technology cannot solve. The discussion will be moderated by literary critic Heo Hee.

Participating authors include:

Yoon Go-eun who became the first Asian author to win the Dagger Award for translated crime fiction with her book The Night Travelers (Minumsa) in 2021. The book has been praised as an eco-thriller and translated into 11 languages with a film adaptation currently underway.
Baek Soo-rin who debuted in 2011 with the short story Practice of Lies and has published various works including Falling in Fall (Munhakdongne) and Terrible Light (Changbi).
Bernard Minier a representative French crime novelist debuted in 2011 with the novel The Frozen Dead (Glacé) known for its solid narrative and persuasive themes.
Lecture by Photographer Kang Hyeong-won on August 7

Kang Hyeong-won the first Korean to win the Pulitzer Prize twice will give a lecture titled Korean Cultural Heritage Through Photos on August 7th at 5:45 PM. He will introduce Koreas splendid artifacts relics and ancient civilizations and cultures. Globally active Kang has worked with LA Times AP and Reuters and authored Our Cultural Heritage Through Photos (RH Korea) documenting Koreas extensive history and culture.

Meanwhile the Ministry of Culture Sports and Tourism held various K-Book events in June including workshops and discussions between Korean and French authors at bookstores libraries and schools across Paris. The Korean Cultural Center in France is also hosting a K-Book permanent exhibition from June 5 to August 30. In October the ministry will participate in the 2024 France K-Expo in Paris to continue promoting Korean books and authors.

The Ministry will continue to promote the excellence artistry and popularity of K-Books to expand the wave of publishing Hallyu globally.
