Celebrities are garnering attention not only in the entertainment industry but also by securing patents for their unique and creative ideas. Comedian Jang Dong-min TVXQ’s Yunho and chef Baek Jong-won are at the forefront of this trend. Each of them has introduced innovative products in different fields offering new conveniences to consumers.
Jang Dong-min’s One-Touch Removable Container Label
Comedian Jang Dong-min obtained a patent in 2023 for his environmentally-friendly One-Touch Removable Container Label idea. This label designed to be easily removed from PET bottles won an Excellence Award at the 2023 Environmental Startup Competition. Jang Dong-min explained that he came up with the idea to reduce the hassle of removing labels during the recycling process. The design allows the label to automatically detach when the bottle cap is twisted helping consumers separate waste more easily for recycling.
Yunho’s Dual Cup and Mask for Drinking Beverages
In 2014 TVXQ’s Yunho registered a patent for a Dual Cup that allows users to enjoy two different beverages simultaneously from one cup. The dual cup is designed so that different beverages can be stored in the top and bottom sections reducing cup waste and offering the convenience of enjoying various drinks at once.
Additionally in 2020 Yunho acquired a design patent for a Mask for Drinking Beverages. This mask features a cover that can be opened and closed in the center allowing the wearer to drink without removing the mask. The idea which was particularly relevant during the pandemic showcases Yunho’s passion for invention sparking anticipation for what innovative products he might come up with next.
Baek Jong-won’s Thin-Sliced Pork Belly
Chef Baek Jong-won revolutionized the culinary industry in 1998 by trademarking Thin-Sliced Pork Belly. Initially he purchased a meat slicer to sell pork more affordably but the thin slices of pork belly were accidentally created when he used a ham slicer instead. This unique style of pork belly was named Thin-Sliced Pork Belly and Baek Jong-won subsequently trademarked it. However since he didn’t immediately apply for a patent other restaurants began mimicking and selling it. Faced with the challenge of enforcing the patent he decided not to take issue with other establishments selling the product.
These examples show how various celebrities are bringing convenience and change to consumers daily lives with their unique ideas revealing their entrepreneurial spirit. It will be interesting to see whether their ventures continue to result in new ideas and products in the future.
