The G-Artience 2024 Connecting Week will be held from December 1st to 3rd at the Daejeon Convention Center (DCC) and WIP Square.

As K-pop leads the global music market and K-dramas compete with Hollywood the question arises: What is needed for the continued growth of K-culture? In Daejeon the scientific capital of Korea K-TechArt (TechArt) is poised to be presented as the answer.

Hosted by the G-Artience 2024 Organizing Committee (chaired by KAIST Professor Emeritus Kim Myung-seok) and KAIST Graduate School of Culture Technology this event aims to realize a human-centered life through the fusion of science and art.

Approximately 2000 participants including scientists artists and TechArt experts from industry academia and research institutions are expected to attend. Artists and researchers from countries such as Germany France Japan and Kazakhstan will participate. Notably Japan will send over 40 participants from four universities while Kazakhstan will have 20 participants from one university.

Chairman Kim Myung-seok expressed his expectations stating Through this event we hope to establish G-Artience as a leading global platform for TechArt discussions much like how Davos (WEF) focuses on world economics and CES on electronics.

Key Programs

The G-Artience 2024 Connecting Week aims to foster creative innovation and intellectual property creation through the convergence of science and art. The event will focus on revitalizing advanced cultural technology promoting the fusion of cultural industries and building a global TechArt hub. This will be an important opportunity for domestic and international experts to lead K-TechArt and chart a new course for the next wave of Hallyu (Korean Wave).

The pre-session on December 1 will include networking opportunities and presentations on science and art. The main event on December 2 will kick off with a violin performance by Professor Cha In-hong from Wright State University followed by a keynote speech by KAIST Professor Emeritus Won Kwang-yeon. Panel discussions will be held on future visions featuring Chairman Kim Myung-seok and other prominent figures from science technology and the arts.

In the afternoon the program will feature the ‘Master’s 10 Talk’ where eight global leaders will each deliver a 10-minute presentation and the ‘NextGen 10 Talk’ competition where the next generation of leaders will showcase innovative ideas. The best presentation will receive a cash prize of 10 million KRW and real-time evaluations will be conducted by foreign journalists.

Cutting-edge TechArt Performances

One of the most anticipated parts of the event is the fusion of advanced technology and art featuring performances combining AI-based motion capture media art dance and automated music. The stage will consist of an X-shaped central platform and four auxiliary stages with content being delivered to the audience through a massive 75-meter-long LED screen. This innovative combination of stage design and cutting-edge technology is expected to leave a lasting impression on attendees.

G-Artience Vision

On September 28 KAIST and the Daejeon Arts Center jointly presented an innovative and experimental X-Space performance which showcased the potential of future TechArt. The performance combined KAIST’s advanced cultural technology (CT) with AI music dance and neuroscience demonstrating the possibilities for future TechArt. The success of this experimental performance is expected to be a significant catalyst for the development of K-TechArt.

To continue advancing K-TechArt G-Artience will host Connecting Week annually along with monthly Connecting Days to promote exchange between artists and scientists aiming to revitalize advanced cultural technologies and establish a platform for global collaboration. This event marks an important turning point positioning K-TechArt as the driving force behind a new wave of Korean cultural influence.

Chairman Kim Myung-seok emphasized The vision of G-Artience is to achieve creativity and innovation through the fusion of science and art ultimately realizing a more human-centered life.

Supported by the Korea Tourism Organization G-Artience 2024 Connecting Week is expected to be a key opportunity to globally showcase the convergence of Korea’s cultural arts and cutting-edge technology.
