The Western District Office of the Joseon Royal Tombs under the Cultural Heritage Administration’s Royal Palaces and Tombs Division (Director Kim Mi-ran) in collaboration with the social cooperative Ecological Peace One Step (represented by Song Jae-jin) is offering a unique hands-on experience program called The Forest Tales of the Joseon Royal Tombs combining history and forest ecology. The program will take place at Gimpo Jangneung in Gyeonggi Province on Saturdays October 19 and 26 at 10 a.m.

Gimpo Jangneung is the royal tomb of Wonjong (1580–1619) the father of King Injo and Queen Inheon (1578–1626) both of whom were key figures of the Joseon Dynasty. It is a beloved heritage site surrounded by beautiful natural features like a reservoir visited annually by mandarin ducks (designated as a Natural Monument) a dense forest and scenic walking trails perfect for forest bathing and enjoying the natural beauty of the area.

Participants in this event will be able to experience the charm of autumn at Gimpo Jangneung while listening to a professional guide explain the historical significance of the tomb and the ecological value of the forest. Additionally they will have the opportunity to engage in a hands-on activity creating souvenirs by imprinting patterns onto pouches using natural materials such as leaves and foliage. This experience offers a deep connection to both the history of the Joseon Royal Tombs and their natural heritage value.

Reservations for the program will open on October 15 at 9 a.m. via the Royal Palaces and Tombs Division’s website (royal.khs.go.kr). Each session is limited to 15 participants aged elementary school and older and admission is free (separate entry fee applies). If spaces remain available due to cancellations same-day registration may also be available on-site.

The Western District Office of the Joseon Royal Tombs will continue to develop and operate various programs to promote the beauty of the Joseon Royal Tombs a cultural heritage that emphasizes harmony with nature.
