Metaverse Takes Flight with the Wings of Convergence! 2024 Korea Metaverse Festival [KMF 2024] to be Held!
A Glimpse into the Future of the Metaverse Industry Opening on October 17
The Ministry of Science and ICT (Minister Yoo Sang-im hereafter referred to as ‘MSIT’) announced that the 2024 Korea Metaverse Festival (KMF 2024) the largest event in the domestic metaverse industry will be held from October 17 (Thursday) to October 19 (Saturday) for three days at the aT Center in Yangjae.
Celebrating its 9th edition this year the Korea Metaverse Festival 2024 will take place under the theme “Metaverse: Taking Flight with the Wings of Convergence!” and will feature a variety of events such as an opening ceremony exhibitions international academic conferences presentations from the Metaverse Alliance subcommittees the finals of the K-Hackathon (Korean-style hackathon) the Metaverse Developer Competition award ceremony an R&D technology exchange meeting a 3D hologram technology exchange meeting and more. The event will bring together a wide range of participants from the industrial academic research and governmental sectors including leading domestic and international experts at the forefront of the expanding metaverse ecosystem.
The opening ceremony on October 17 (Thursday) will begin with an address by Shin Soo-jung President of the Korea Metaverse Industry Association followed by a welcome speech from MSIT Minister Yoo Sang-im congratulatory speeches from Yoo Ji-sang Chair of the Metaverse Alliance and National Assembly members Choi Hyung-doo and Kim Hyun. The event will also include the presentation of the Minister’s Award for the Metaverse Developer Competition followed by the opening celebration.
From the afternoon of October 17 through October 18 (Friday) the international academic conference “The MEANS” (The Metaverse for Everything & Next Generation Summit) will take place featuring policy announcements from MSIT followed by insights from experts from prominent global metaverse companies such as Caliverse Microsoft Google Cloud Epic Games and Qualcomm. These experts will share their views on the future direction of the metaverse industry which continues to evolve through its integration with various technologies and sectors.
On October 18 (Friday) the 2024 Global Metaverse Conference (GMC) - “BRIDGE” (Building Responsible Innovation and Developing Global Ethics Standards) will be held starting with a keynote speech by Professor Sam Richards of Penn State University a global scholar and renowned Hallyu (Korean Wave) advocate on the theme The Metaverse and Korea’s Future. Experts from Google Korea Roblox and HTC will also discuss the digital new order and strategies for international coexistence in the era of Web 3.0.
Additionally the festival will feature the Metaverse Alliance’s Subcommittee Public Presentations which will share the annual activities of the Metaverse Alliance and foster relationships. Other notable events include the finals of the K-Hackathon aimed at discovering creative talent and expanding the reach of the industry; the Metaverse Developer Competition awards ceremony; the R&D Technology Exchange Meeting where the direction and achievements of metaverse industry research and development will be shared; and the 3D Hologram Technology Exchange Meeting.
This year’s Korea Metaverse Festival 2024 Exhibition will showcase participation from 158 companies leading the metaverse industry. Caliverse a leading metaverse company will present its highly advanced metaverse platform launched internationally in August offering an even more immersive metaverse experience. Woongjin ThinkBig will introduce Lingocity its AI-based metaverse English speaking education platform which has garnered 13000 paid subscribers since its official service launch earlier this month. In addition promising domestic metaverse SMEs such as Davio SimsReality Novatech and The Pickt will exhibit their innovative metaverse products and services applied across various fields.
The Metaverse Experience Hall where the latest metaverse technologies can be experienced by the public will be expanded. Visitors can enjoy a wide array of experiences including historical cultural and educational content immersive augmented reality glasses and generative AI-based hyper-realistic virtual artist experiences providing an opportunity to directly engage with cutting-edge metaverse technologies.
In her welcome speech at the opening ceremony MSIT Minister Yoo Sang-im emphasized The metaverse is a key emerging industry in the digital age rapidly developing and expanding through its active convergence with digital technologies such as virtual reality (VR) augmented reality (AR) artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud-based resource sharing. She added I hope that this year’s 2024 Korea Metaverse Festival will offer a meaningful opportunity to envision the future changes that advanced digital technologies will bring.
