Continuous Support for Technological Innovation and Industry Expansion to Strengthen the Competitiveness of the Domestic Seed Industry

Song Mi-reung Minister of Agriculture Food and Rural Affairs attended the opening ceremony of the 2024 International Seed Expo held in Gimje Jeollabuk-do on October 16 (Wednesday) to encourage participants from the seed industry and event organizers.

Now in its 8th year the International Seed Expo is the only industry exhibition in Korea dedicated to the seed sector. It is co-hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture Food and Rural Affairs Jeollabuk-do Province and Gimje City and organized by the Korea Agricultural Technology Promotion Agency. The event aims to showcase the excellence of varieties developed by Korean breeders to domestic and international audiences while supporting seed companies in expanding exports.

Minister Song emphasized “With the increasing importance of seeds due to climate change it is crucial to innovate and expand the industry base to lead the highly competitive global seed market.” She added “The government will continue to support research and development (R&D) to commercialize ‘digital breeding’ using advanced technologies and enhance the competitiveness of Korea’s seed industry by establishing facilities such as seed processing centers that add value to our products.”
