The 19th edition of Koreas largest robot industry exhibition RoboWorld 2024 will be held at KINTEX in Goyang for four days starting on Wednesday October 23. Last year 271 companies and organizations participated with 821 booths. This year RoboWorld is set to be the largest ever with 291 companies and organizations showcasing the latest in robot technology across 880 booths. The event will also feature export-support programs such as business consultations and overseas expansion strategy seminars in connection with Korea’s Export Boom-Up initiative.

Key Highlights of RoboWorld 2024 Exhibition

The most attention-grabbing products at this year’s exhibition are intelligent robots integrated with AI. AI is expanding the capabilities of robots across various sectors including humanoids delivery robots and service robots. A notable example is A-Robots humanoid which uses AI-based voice and object recognition to deliver specific colored candies based on verbal requests demonstrating its potential applications in manufacturing and service industries. Roboteezs indoor delivery robot equipped with vision AI and a robotic arm can autonomously navigate elevators and security doors further broadening its range of mobility. Intigrate will unveil a hotel service robot capable of assisting guests during checkout through conversations powered by large language models (like ChatGPT).

Additionally companies that have successfully localized core robot components will be a key attraction. Tesolo developed a gripper that adjusts its shape according to the object it aims to grasp thanks to integrated vision AI. SPG has achieved the domestic production of reduction gears used in various robots including industrial robots and humanoids. Earlier this year the Ministry of Industry announced plans to continue supporting such efforts and increase the localization rate of five key robot components to 80% by 2030 up from 44% in 2021 (as outlined in the 4th Basic Plan for Intelligent Robots published in January 2024).

Future Directions for Robot Industry Development

The Ministry of Industry views robots as a future growth engine that will drive the next generation of exports. To support the growth of the robot industry the ministry plans to promote policies such as:

The AI Autonomous Manufacturing Leading Project which focuses on fostering manufacturing robots by integrating AI into production processes addressing challenges like labor shortages and carbon reduction. This project aims to roll out 20 initiatives this year expanding to 200 by 2027.
The Humanoid Initiative which targets the development of world-class humanoids by 2027. This initiative will involve AI research labs robot companies and AI semiconductor firms and is expected to launch in the first half of next year.
A comprehensive revision of the Intelligent Robots Act which aims to create a legal framework that fosters the growth of new industries.
