Beyond K-pop: Experience a Variety of Asian Music and Culture in One Place

The Ministry of Culture Sports and Tourism (Minister Yoo In-chon hereafter MCST) will host the 2024 Asia Song Festival × Culture It’s Geo with the Korea Foundation for International Cultural Exchange (Director Park Chang-sik hereafter KOFICE) at Yeouido Hangang Park Seoul on Saturday October 26 and Sunday October 27. Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Asia Song Festival this years event will feature not only music performances from various countries but also a special program that revisits the history of K-pop interactive exhibitions and more.

20th Anniversary of the Asia Song Festival: Star-Studded Lineup K-pop Cover Dance Highlights and a Special Korea-Vietnam Joint Performance

The Asia Song Festival which began in 2004 is a leading music festival that fosters cultural exchange between Asian countries promoting mutual understanding and friendship. This year’s festival will be held at Mulbit Stage Yeouido Hangang Park on October 26 at 6 PM. A total of 10 teams from seven countries—including Korea Japan Vietnam Indonesia Thailand the Philippines and special guest Jamaica—will participate. The 20th anniversary event has garnered intense interest with all tickets selling out within five minutes of pre-sale opening thanks to a dazzling lineup and special programming.

From Korea top K-pop artists leading the current trends will perform including fromis_9 QWER 8TURN and Balming Tiger showcasing a variety of performances that transcend generations and genres. Internationally Indonesian artist Afgan who has surpassed 100 million streams on Spotify Japanese singer-songwriter Tomioka Ai Jamaican reggae artist Jah-Lil Thai star band HYBS member WIM and rising Filipino singer Dionela will take the stage. Additionally 8TURN and Vietnam’s My Anh will present their first joint performance adding a special touch to the festival.

Various events highlighting K-pops 20-year history will also take place. Opening the festival the K-pop dance team DAOR will present cover dances of approximately 12 iconic K-pop artists from BoA (the 1st generation K-pop star and Asia Song Festival’s inaugural performer) to 5th-generation K-pop groups. The festival will also feature interactive exhibits including stage videos showcasing 20 years of the Asia Song Festival a digital guestbook quizzes and a photo booth to reflect on K-pop’s legacy. The performances will be broadcast live globally via the Asia Song Festival and KBS World YouTube channels.

Boracay Beach from the Philippines and Jamaica’s Reggae Town at Hangang Park

Culture It’s Geo is a festival offering immersive global cultural experiences where attendees can enjoy the performances exhibitions food and traditional attire of various countries in Korea. This year’s event focusing on Philippine and Jamaican culture will take place at Mulbit Stage in Yeouido Hangang Park on October 26 and 27.

In the exhibition area called Philippine Village visitors can learn the traditional Tinikling dance against the backdrop of Boracay Beach and try their hand at rattan crafting to create unique souvenirs. Attendees can also enjoy Filipino snacks like mango cubes and halo-halo dress in traditional Filipino attire and take photos. Meanwhile in Jamaica Village visitors can experience dancehall dancing reminiscent of Bob Marley or try their hand at braided hairstyles. Other activities include crafting traditional accessories tasting Blue Mountain coffee (one of the world’s top three coffees) and sampling cocktails. A stamp mission will also be held in both villages offering special gifts for those who complete all experiences.

On October 27 at 4 PM vibrant performances will take the stage. Korean reggae duo Rivers of Peace (Skull & Haha) will perform alongside Jamaican artist Jah-Lil. Filipino singer Dionela will present a unique performance and the audience can also enjoy traditional Filipino folk performances and energetic Jamaican dancehall acts.
