LG Innotek constructs AI patent analysis system ‘900 times faster than human’

LG Innotek announced on 6th that they built up patent information system using AI.

Generally patent information system collects and analyze patent information from all over the world and is used by companies to set up their new product and technology development directions. The system has been used for protection of intellectual property of research result and risk management in the past such as making sure there was no similar patent to the new product or technology or if it infringes other patents.

LG Innoteks newly developed system applied AI technology and changed the paradigm of patent utilization. It analyzes tens of thousands of patent big data in a short period of time which would not have been possible by humans and provides important information which is necessary for development direction. Through this process it is possible to develop an R&D strategy through patent analysis instead of the existing method of filing patent application after development. Patent information has become a leading indicator of R&D strategy development further from risk management and intellectual property protection.

LG Innoteks ‘AI patent information system’ is 900 times faster than human. When analyzing 50000 cases of patent information it takes 8 hours a day a total of 100 days with 5 people but the system can process it in just 4 hours. Thanks to the AI text recognition model developed by LG Innotek in collaboration with LG AI Research Institute the text and context of patent documents can be analyzed automatically in real time and key information such as patent applications problem and solutions can be quickly extracted. In addition AI can continuously learn the classification criteria of technical data and automatically classify tens of thousands of patent information in detail technology units.

LG Innotek can analyze more than 3 million cases of patent applications big data from worldwide every year to understand technology trends and industry insights and is able to further subdivide and elaborate the differentiation area from existing products and reflect on the development strategy.

LG Innotek is planning to accelerate future preparations by using the ‘AI patent information system’ for product technology development and R&D long-term strategy. In particular by improving the convenience of the system and advancing the contextual analysis function they are planning to expand its use to include not only R&D but also marketing product planning and HR management.
