Securing Global Technological Leadership Through Patent Information Utilization!

The 20th International Patent Information Expo PATINEX 2024* hosted by the Korean Intellectual Property Office (Commissioner: Kim Wan-ki) and organized by the Korea Institute of Patent Information will take place from October 31 (Thursday) to November 1 (Friday) at the Crystal Ballroom Lotte Hotel World in Songpa-gu Seoul.

Celebrating its 20th anniversary PATINEX has become Koreas largest patent information expo with over 12000 accumulated participants. Since its inception in 2005 it has been held annually to share innovative companies’ strategies for using patent information and to promote the patent information service industry.

This year under the theme “Intellectual Property Information: A New Wave for a Better Future” the expo has expanded in scale and will feature not only domestic patent information experts but also foreign agencies and private institutions handling intellectual property information including the US Japan and China Patent Offices IBM and Amazon. An exhibition showcasing various services from companies in the intellectual property information sector will also be available.

Conference: Presenting Global Patent Information Utilization Strategies

On the first day October 31 the conference will open at 2 PM with a keynote speech by Lee Jun-gi Chairman of the Public Data Strategy Committee under the Office of the Prime Minister titled “A Vision for Korea as a Creative Knowledge Powerhouse.” Experts from IBM KAIST and the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) will discuss patent information-based search services and strategies for intellectual property commercialization.

An awards ceremony will also take place for the winners of the “2024 Public Intellectual Property Information Policy Idea Contest” which sought outstanding cases of patent information utilization and patent administration improvements in the data application category.

On the second day November 1 starting at 9:30 AM Amazon Coupang and Nitto Denko will present in-depth lectures on corporate management strategies using patent information.

Additionally the patent data utilization policies of the patent offices of Korea Japan and China will be introduced.

Exhibition: Experiencing Services of Leading Patent Information Companies

The exhibition hall will feature booths from intellectual property information service companies and institutions. There will be service demonstrations from 19 domestic and international companies and organizations including WIPS Intelligence Markcloud and Clarivate as well as business meetings between service providers and demand companies.

Lee In-soo Director-General of the Industrial Property Information Policy Bureau of the Korean Intellectual Property Office stated “In this era of intense global competition for technological supremacy patent information is a core indicator of technological innovation and national competitiveness” adding “We hope this event provides Korean companies with effective ways to utilize patent information and develop innovative strategies for the future.”
