27 Winning Entries Selected for the 2024 National Arboretum Botanical Illustration Contest
Selected Works to Participate in the 2025 World Botanical Art Exhibition
The Korea National Arboretum (Director Lim Young-seok) announced today (14th) the selection of 27 winning entries to be exhibited in the 2025 2nd World Botanical Art Exhibition.
The National Arboretum held a contest from April 15 to September 27 to gather submissions for The Botanical Art Worldwide 2025.
The 1st World Botanical Art Exhibition was held in 2018 featuring native plants from over 30 participating countries. The upcoming 2025 exhibition will focus on the biodiversity of cultivated plants and their wild relatives highlighting species that have been used for food and medicinal purposes throughout history.
The submissions were judged by a panel of five experts in botany and art through a blind review process. The selected entries include:
Grand Prize: Hye-jong Kang (White Carrot)
Excellence Awards: Hyun-kyung Song (Quince) Hong-joo Kim (Luffa Gourd)
Merit Awards: Ahn-sook Park (Horse Chestnut) Min-seo Kim (Bitter Melon) Young-sook Lee (Mountain Garlic) Min-jung Son (Star Luffa) Seung-hyun Lee (East Asian Medicinal Pennywort)
Other Selected Works: Hee-soon Baek (Soybean) among others totaling 27 works.
Director Lim Young-seok of the National Arboretum stated “This exhibition is an important opportunity to rediscover and share the value of Korea’s diverse cultivated plant resources through botanical illustrations. We aim to enhance international exchange in botanical science and art and will continue to support such activities to increase recognition of our resources globally.”
The selected botanical illustrations will be displayed from May 22 2025 for one month at the special exhibition hall of the Korea National Arboretum and at the 11th International Congress on Education in Botanic Gardens (ICEBG) exhibition venue at COEX Seoul. This event will showcase both original and digital works simultaneously in 30 participating countries across six continents including Korea Japan Australia Turkey the UK Italy Germany France the Netherlands Canada the US Chile Brazil and South Africa.
