A Stage for Revolutionary Innovation – G-Artience 2024 Connecting Week
An event free from traditional formalities such as VIP seating honorary introductions and speeches is setting a new standard. Instead a stage for innovation and convergence takes center stage.
From December 1 to 3 the G-Artience 2024 Connecting Week will take place at the Daejeon Convention Center and WIP Square. This international event aims to merge science technology and cultural arts co-hosted by KAIST the Nam June Paik Art Center and the Daejeon Tourism Organization. The event aspires to establish Korea as a global hub for TechArt through creative innovation and convergence.
This event is more than just a festival; it aims to serve as a starting point for designing the future through the integration of science technology and art. Amid global attention G-Artience 2024 Connecting Week is expected to cement Korea’s position as a central player in the TechArt movement.
Breaking the Boundaries of Art and Technology – Dr. Kate Sicchio at Session 2 of G-Artience 2024
Dr. Kate Sicchio a choreographer media artist and performer will join Session 2 of G-Artience 2024 Connecting Week where she will present her pioneering work in blending art and technology.
Sicchio’s works aim to make technology not just a decorative tool but a central instrument in the creative process. She utilizes algorithmic choreography robot dancers and wearable technologies showcasing innovative methods like developing programming languages that enable computers to assist in choreographic creation or using AI to generate dance inspired by photographs. Through these processes she emphasizes the importance of human agency and physicality in computational processes exploring how the tacit knowledge of dancers can poetically expand the boundaries of technology.
At this event Sicchio will deliver a presentation titled “Live Coding Dance and Choreographic Robots.” Her talk will detail how technology plays a crucial role in the creative process and demonstrate how algorithms and AI can serve as new tools for artistic expression.
Sicchio has presented her work globally in countries including the United States the United Kingdom Australia Belgium Sweden the Netherlands and Qatar. She has been recognized as an Emerging Media Fellow by the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and has been invited to speak at international events such as the European Parliament Eyeo and Resonate. Her work has also been featured in publications such as The New York Times and Dance Magazine.
Regarding the event Sicchio expressed her anticipation stating “The dialogue on art and technology goes beyond mere technological advancements; it’s about discussing ways to create a future filled with humanity communication and meaningful interaction.”
Currently an Associate Professor of Dance and Media Technology at Virginia Commonwealth University Sicchio’s presentation is expected to provide fresh inspiration for the fusion of science and art.
