From December 1 to 3 the G-Artience 2024 Connecting Week will take place at the Daejeon Convention Center and WIP Square. This international event aims to integrate science technology and cultural arts. Co-hosted by KAIST the Nam June Paik Art Center and the Daejeon Tourism Organization the event embodies a mission to evolve into a global hub for TechArt through creative innovation and convergence.
Far beyond a mere celebration this event aspires to be the starting point for designing the future through the fusion of science technology and art. With global attention G-Artience 2024 Connecting Week is poised to establish South Korea as a leading hub for TechArt.
Science and Art in Fusion: A Future Shaped by Lasers – Hyun-ki Jung
New media artist Hyun-ki Jung who bridges the worlds of science and art is set to showcase the essence of this fusion at G-Artience 2024 Connecting Week. As both a geoscience engineer and an artist Jung creates laser-based installation art that transforms scientific perspectives into artistic inspiration.
Jung earned his Ph.D. in Applied Geophysics from Seoul National University and worked as a senior researcher at the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM) for 36 years. From investigating the subsurface of the DMZ to visualizing NASA’s lunar seismic data his career exemplifies the integration of cutting-edge science and humanistic thought. Since 1994 Jung has also been active as part of the duo Chaemi-hyun & Dr. Jung presenting laser installation art at major exhibitions both in Korea and abroad.
Reimagining Data Through Art
In his upcoming presentation Jung will recompose video footage from DMZ boreholes and Earths seismic data into artworks that explore the themes of materiality immateriality and hybridity. His work focuses not only on harmonizing science and art but also on examining the complex structures of modern society and the essence of human existence.
“This event is a sacred platform to explore the infinite possibilities of science and art in the face of rapid change” Jung shared expressing his anticipation for G-Artience 2024.
Signature Works and Vision for the Future
Jung’s signature works include The Beginning of Life a one-dimensional laser drawing co-presented by the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art and KAIST and large-scale laser canvas pieces displayed at London’s Saatchi Gallery. By merging scientific data with artistic imagination he offers audiences entirely new visual experiences.
At G-Artience 2024 Connecting Week Jung will propose modern artistic possibilities where art science and technology converge sharing a forward-looking vision for the future.

The event aims to revolutionize K-TechArt as a global TechArt hub.
From the 75-meter LED screen showcasing a symphony of convergence to visionary keynote speeches and stages of creation attendees will experience the awe-inspiring union of science and art. Highlights include AI avatar dance performances EDM shows by virtual idols and a collaborative design of TechArts future by experts from 13 countries. These features will illustrate South Koreas pioneering strides toward the global stage.
