The Meeting of Hallyu and Science: Opening New Doors for Tourism
Professor Sang-Jun Kim from Kinki University’s School of Business has proposed innovative tourism strategies that leverage AI and virtual reality technologies to bring Korean culture closer to Hallyu fans worldwide.
Kim emphasized that tourism goes beyond mere leisure offering opportunities for personal growth and relaxation while also playing a crucial role in fostering economic benefits and cultural exchange for local communities. “Tourism preserves nature and tradition while enhancing understanding and bonds among people” he stated adding that the fusion of Hallyu content with advanced technology can maximize these values.
AI-Powered Virtual Gallery: A New Model for Hallyu Tourism
Professor Kim’s proposed AI-powered virtual gallery delivers diverse Hallyu content—spanning K-pop K-drama K-beauty and K-fashion—in interactive 3D formats. This platform allows users to vividly experience Korean culture without physical constraints.
The virtual gallery recreates Korea’s unique beauty blending traditional culture natural landscapes and modern civilization in virtual reality. It uses AI to provide personalized tour recommendations and curated experiences for users. Features such as virtual fan meetings with Hallyu stars and immersive tours of iconic drama filming locations enhance engagement and motivate fans to visit Korea in person.
Notably AI-based translation and subtitle functions eliminate language barriers enabling users from diverse linguistic backgrounds to easily experience Korean culture. Additionally the use of NFT technology offers limited-edition digital ownership innovating the way Hallyu content is consumed.
Revitalizing the Tourism Industry Through the Fusion of Hallyu and Science
Professor Kim highlighted the potential of such virtual galleries as pivotal resources for the future tourism industry. He noted “These platforms will become a bridge for Hallyu fans to experience Korean culture intimately encouraging real-world travel and contributing to the growth of Korea’s tourism sector.”
The Importance of Integration in Tourism
Kim also emphasized the importance of merging tourism with art and culture to create unique content further enhanced by scientific advancements to unlock endless possibilities. He called for the creation of a future-oriented tourism model that is accessible and enjoyable for all through the convergent evolution of tourism.
“Tourism holds a significance beyond mere travel” he concluded. “Platforms like G-Artience foster richer discussions and advancements paving the way for a brighter future.”
Kim’s presentation is expected to inspire fresh perspectives on the future of Hallyu content and tourism through the fusion of technology and tourism.
