From December 1 to 3 the G-Artience 2024 Connecting Week will take place at the Daejeon Convention Center and WIP Square. Reclaiming Humanity Through Irrationality – Dadaism for the Algorithm Era

Dr. Jung-yoon Choi the first researcher at the Experience Design Lab (XD Lab) in the KAIST Industrial Design Ph.D. program will address a unique topic at G-Artience 2024 Connecting Week Session 3. His presentation an experimental lecture-performance will transcend the traditional lecture format by engaging the audience in real-time interaction and participation blending discussion and art in innovative ways.

Dr. Choi questions the essence of humanity in an era dominated by algorithms. In a world where artificial intelligence executes rational and efficient tasks he argues that humanity’s unique role lies in irrationality creativity and unpredictability. “If AI can solve all rational problems humans must now act irrationally and embrace Dadaism” he emphasizes.

Critiquing AI Through the Lens of Dadaism
One of Dr. Choi’s notable works Ω critiques the reductionist approach of personality tests like MBTI highlighting how digital algorithms categorize humans blindly. Another work ≠ challenges the linear thinking inherent in algorithms arguing that it oversimplifies the multidimensional and complex nature of the world. Instead he suggests that nonlinear human thinking offers an alternative perspective.

These projects are not merely technological applications but experimental artworks that critique technology itself and explore new possibilities. His multi-device web-based works focus on reducing modern isolation and fostering stronger connections between individuals and their environments through digital technology.

A New Approach: Lecture-Performance
For this presentation Dr. Choi has designed a hybrid format that combines a lecture with performance art. Audience members will actively participate via interactive elements such as QR codes becoming part of the presentation. “Traditional lectures which GPT or other AIs can now generate are no longer sufficient” he asserts aiming to demonstrate that creativity and experimentation are key to showcasing human originality.
