Intellectual Property is the Expression of a Dream : Chairman Gim Jong-won

Gim Jong-won Co-representative of Daejeon Chungnam Forest For Life and Chairman of Korea Association of Wood Culture

From 3pm to 8pm on the 10th the celebration of foundation of the World Intellectual Property Portal WIP News was held with the reduced number of participants to prevent the infection of COVID-19.

The following is the interview with Gim Jong-won Co-representative of Daejeon Chungnam Forest For Life and Chairman of Korea Association of Wood Culture.


Q1. : The best intellectual property news selected by WIP News is provided to readers in local languages ​​through collaborative media (newspapers broadcasts magazines etc.) around the world. How many countries and how many people need to subscribe to WIP News to live up to World Intellectual Property News?

▶Chairman Gim Jong-won : I hope that 100 to 15 countries would share together.


Q2. : Please tell us what is the greatest and profitable intellectual property.

▶Chairman Gim Jong-won : Maybe for now its AI technology.


Q3. : Do you have any copyrights or patents?

▶Chairman Gim Jong-won: I am a woodcutter. And my company is running a forestry-related business called Poonglim Co. Ltd. and it makes nature smile. However there are by-products in forestry-related projects flotage in dam and sludge at the sewage which are a problem in recent years. In fact they were banned from sea dumping and so that they have become a lot of environmental problems. If they will be used as fertilizer for trees then they will be recycled again and they will exert great power in a resource-poor country Korea. So I have a patent for composting with flotage and sludge. I have an expectation that perhaps this can be a new role model for resource recycling.


Q4. : What kind of efforts Korea need to become a powerhouse in the field of intellectual property?

▶Chairman Gim Jong-won : Intellectual property is difficult for everyone. And it is not popular yet. Im sure that the first purpose of WIP News is to make it popular accessible and be protected. And if it embraces the world then dreams will come true for sure.


Q5. : How would you describe intellectual property in one word?

▶Chairman Gim Jong-won: For me intellectual property is the realization of dreams and the expression of dreams.


Q6. : If you have a wish for WIP News which was created to easily inform the intellectual property to the public and help Korea to become a hub in the field of intellectual property in the world please tell me.

▶Chairman Gim Jong-won: I often use the phrase make nature smile and make soul smile. I want to apply it in my life. However I hope that WIP News make the people smile through the protection of intellectual property and hope that day the whole world and the worlds souls smile so that today will be a historic day.
