Business agreement made between KIPO KOSHIPA and SNAK to reinforce shipbuilding industry related IP
Reinforcement of IP and nurturing talents in order to secure global competitiveness in shipbuilding industry

Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO President: Kim Yong-rae) made an business agreement at Government Complex Daejeon in 21st July with Korea Offshore & Shipbuilding Association (KOSHIPA President: Ka Sam-hyun) and the Society of Naval Architects of Korea (SNAK President: Kim Hyun-soo) to bolster development in shipbuilding industry.
The agreement aims for cooperation towards issues like ‘2050 Carbon Zero’ and smartification of ships and renovation of training system for future development in the industry. The institutes are going to manage forum of experts to deal with intellectual property (IP) and future issues make efforts to ease supply of professionals and enhance professionalism and establish permanent IP organization to ensure IP related activities.
Especially the institutes are planning to consistently support IP related activities to assure global competency of shipbuilding industry. They pledged to share patent statistics and utilize big data analysis to strengthen R&D and creation of competitive IP. Also university students are going to be following up-to-date curriculum including subjects like artificial intelligence automatic sailing next generation energy system etc. The institute expects the students to be nurtured as talents that may usher the industry under new era of 4th industrial revolution and digital economy.
KIPO prospects that the agreement will build an environment that professionals may find solution for future issues through consultation stimulate big data analysis and cooperatively nurture students to strengthen the shipbuilding industry which is one of important national businesses.
Kim said he wishes that the agreement may put the ‘Korean New Deal’ and ‘2050 Carbon Zero’ polices forward. He also added that KIPO will work together with businesses and institutes of shipbuilding industry to secure the global leading position.
