The Ministry of Culture Sports and Tourism (Minister Hwang Hee hereinafter referred to as the MCST) will release the newly produced 2021 Arirang in celebration of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics with the Korea Copyright Commission (Chairman Choi Byeong-gu hereinafter KCC) for the first time on July 19 (Mon).
The music source of 2021 Arirang was created by arranging the melody and changing the lyrics of Arirang in Gyeonggi Province whose copyright protection period has expired into a cheering song version. Professor Sung Yoon-yong of Yeoju Institute of Technology took the general director of the song while YG (YG) Entertainments producer Kang Kyu-yong (Q) Professor Kim Min-ki and Professor Kim Seung-nam of Yeoju Institute of Technology also participated in producing and arranging the music. The singing was played by Yoon Do-hyun of YB famous for its cheering song Oh Pil-seung Korea.
In particular all those who participated in the production of the 2021 Arirang donated their copyright (neighboring) rights to the government in order to participate in the spread of the copyright donation culture. The copyright donation system is a system that allows people to freely use rights held by copyright holders or others by donating them to the government. Starting with the donation of the national anthem by the bereaved family of composer Ahn Eak-tai in 2005 a total of 10376 cases including the song of the Pledge of Allegiance were donated to the nation. In the case of copyrighted works donated to the nation any Korean can use them freely.
2021 Arirang will be distributed not only on the committees shared yard website (wwwgongu.copyright.or.kr) but also on the website of real-time music play (streaming) services such as Melon and Genie. Anyone can download for free without worrying about copyright and play (stream) in real time.
In addition to the release of the music the MCST and the KCC will hold the 2021 Arirang One Line Appreciation Challenge (Sharing) and Relay Participation of Singing the 2021 Arirang Cheering Song Event to promote copyright donation from July 19 (Mon) to September 24 (Fri).
Those wishing to participate in the One Line Appreciation Challenge can ▲ share 2021 Arirang music on the social network on the real-time streaming service website or post a photo of 2021 Arirang music with a line of appreciation. Participants who hash tagged three essential keywords (#2021Arirang #ShareYard #CopyrightDonation) will be presented with mobile gift certificates (gifticon) through a sortilege.
Participants in Relay Participation of Singing the Cheering Song Event can sing in accordance with the song 2021 Arirang played in the background post the recording or video on the social network and register the Internet English address (URL) on the committees website (https://gongu.copyright.or.kr). One outstanding singer shall be supported in recording and producing the official sound source along with the award of the Chairman of the Committee. The sound source will be additionally released in November after the copyright donation process.
A policy official at the MCST said We hope that the 2021 Arirang which can be freely used by anyone in difficult times of COVID-19 will be able to support the Korean athletes participating in the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics and console people of Korea adding We hope that this case will raise awareness of the copyright donation system and become a catalyst for a virtuous cycle of copyright donation.
