Toyota Is Willing to Take a Loss of 2 Trillion Won the Current State of the Tokyo Olympics

The Tokyo Olympics is unusual.

Due to the worldwide epidemic of the COVID-19 virus the Summer Olympics and Paralympics which were scheduled for last year 2020 have been postponed to 2021 and are now set to open. Lets take a look at the Tokyo Olympics which have more negative issues than any other Olympics in history.

Problem 1 the Bed Issue (For Preventing Sexual relationship?)

Paul Chelimo an American athlete is one of the people who raised the issue. Paul Chelimo the U.S. long-distance runner posted on his Twitter account a picture of a corrugated cardboard bed inside the Tokyo Olympic Village. In his post a picture of a crushed waste box along with a corrugated bed was posted and the brief explanation as before and after is left.

Problem 2 Sexual Assault During Rehearsal for the Opening Ceremony the Suspect Arrested

An employee at the Tokyo Olympic Stadium was arrested on the charge of committing sexual assault inside the stadium during an Olympic rehearsal. According to the NHK report on the 18th a contract worker working at a cafeteria in the stadium as a Uzbek national is a suspect and the victim is a part-timer at the stadium. On the 16th he sexually assaulted near the audience while watching the rehearsal at around 9 p.m. when the rehearsal for the opening ceremony was almost over. The suspect was arrested on the 19th.

Problem 3 Dokdo Rising Sun Flag Problem Admiral Yi Sun-sins Phrase Controversy

Japan has set up a brothel with a phrase attached to the Korean teams lodging at the Olympic Athletes Village in Harumi region Tokyo. As this phrase reminds it of Admiral Yi Sun-shins message it called the banner as an anti-Japanese banner and expressed uncomfortable feelings. The phrase in controversy reminds us of the reports phrase SangYuSipI SunShinBulSa which Admiral Yi Sun-sin posted to King Seonjo during the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592.

The interpretation of the phrase might depend on its own judgment but the next move of Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee is a comedy. After a consultation with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) the the Korean Olympic Committee agreed on not using the Rising Sun Flag and the so-called Admiral Yi Sun-shin Banner at the same time but the Tokyo 2020 Committee just ignored it. According to the Asahi Simbun on the 18th it said that the Rising Sun Flag is widely used in Japan and does not contain political claims and that the Rising Sun Flag does not correspond to the restricted items prohibited from bringing the stadium and changed its words adding that it will allow carrying the Rising Sun Flag. Then It even picked on a picture of a tiger on a Korean map that demonstrates the song Tiger is Coming by LEENALCHI as an image. It is hard to know the reason of the nitpicking but in my personal opinion it might be because Dokdo is on that map. In short for the Japan Committee the IOC decision is of no interest.

Problem 4 Spread of COVID-19 in the Olympic Village

Having two days before the opening of the Tokyo Olympics the number of COVID-19 infection among athletes and officials increased to 75. On the possibility of canceling the Tokyo Olympics the organizing committees Director General replied that there is still a possibility. It is a dangerous number considering the highly contagious COVID-19 and mutation viruses such as Alpha and Delta. For reference the number of confirmed patients in Tokyo is 1387 as of the 20th.

Problem 5 The Biggest Problem Degrading Announcement Toward President Moon Jae-in

Soma Hirohisa Japan’s deputy chief of mission in Korea of the Japanese Embassy made absurd remarks on the 15th that the President Moon is masturbating himself when asked about President Moon Jae-ins efforts to improve Korea-Japan relations. At that time Diplomatic Representative Soma made the problematic absurd remark saying that Japan could not afford to care about bilateral relations as much as Korea does and that President Moon Jae-in is conducting a war of nerves alone. In the end the unforgivable remark cooled diplomatic relations between Korea and Japan and concluded with President Moon Jae-ins declaration of absence from the opening ceremony.

Problem 6 The Music Director of the Tokyo Olympics Resigned After He Was Found to Have Bullied Disabled Children

Famous musician Oyamada Keigo who hosted the music (composing) for the opening ceremony resigned on the 19th. In an interview he talked about group harassment committed against disabled students and others in his school days without any guilt. One of the shocking things is that he fed a disabled student human excrement for the reason he did not like him. He resigned as the fact that he said it casually in the interview 30 years ago became problematic. Meanwhile an official of the Organizing Committee lamented that the competition was cursed the Mainichi Shimbun said.

Problem 7 Toyota Decided to Stop Supporting After Spending 2 Trillion Won

Toyota which produced Olympic advertisements but did not air them whose management said they would not attend the opening ceremony gave up their rights after spending 2 trillion won on sponsorship contracts. Nagata CCO of Toyota said that the Olympics is becoming incomprehensible in many ways. They gave up their rights even after spending 2 trillion won for fear that their connection with the Summer Olympics could undermine the brand rather than shine.

Other Problems

- The fact that the team Korea have meals with the ingredients prepared by itself has sparked controversy over Japanese that Korea ignores Fukushima farmers who had the difficulties and ignores Japan. However the U.S. has also decided to provide food ingredients and cooking by itself for its athletes.

- The Tokyo Olympics are becoming a laughing stock as tall athletes post uncomfortable situations on SNS as facilities in the athletes village are built without consideration.

There is a myth that the cursed Olympics will come back every 40 years. The Winter Sapporo Olympics in 1940 and the Summer Tokyo Olympics were canceled due to World War II and also in the 1980 Moscow Olympics western countries were largely absent due to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Following the one-year delay of the Olympic Games which had to be held in 2020 hosting the games without spectators the rumors are spreading within the Organizing Committee that the Olympics is cursed.

The Olympics is a global festival based on sports spirit. If it is difficult for Japan to change its narrow mind it will have to think about the position of others as it decided to hold the event by listening to the stories of neighboring countries and the IOC.
