Music used on global SNS Twitter has been found to have no copyright processing at all.

According to the Korea Music Copyright Association (Chairman Hong Jin-young hereinafter KOMCA) the copyright fee for music has never been paid by Twitter even though music is being used in the form of video playback and real-time streaming. Other global SNSs such as Facebook and Instagram are paying music copyright fees to the Korean Music Copyright Association.

In other words within Facebook and Instagram users can legally use music through contracts with the association but music used on Twitter constitutes copyright infringement.

Currently Twitter is only taking follow-up measures to simply delete posts when copyright holders report copyright infringement. In response an official of KOMCA pointed out A large amount of music content is uploaded on Twitter but it is too passive to deal with it.

Moreover Space a real-time voice social media released by Twitter is also facing growing criticism as the copyright fee has not been paid at all even though three of the top five channels are K-pop-related channels (GOT7 NCT TWICE).

KOMCA strongly criticized A music is used very diversely on Twitter and Twitter is already benefiting a lot from K-pop but no compensation has been made for music creators.

In addition it said repeatedly emphasizing Other SNSs such as Facebook Instagram and Tiktok have paid royalties and provided an environment for users to use music legally. On the other hand since Twitter has continued infringement for too long the association will not stand by but actively block it.
