On 24 August 2021 the European Union Intellectual Property Office achieved another important milestone reaching 2 million EU trade mark (EUTM) registrations. This comes 7 years after achieving 1 million trade marks registered.

Over the years EUTMs and registered Community designs (RCDs) have become instruments of significant value for companies around the world wishing to sell their goods and services in the European Union. It therefore comes as no surprise that EUTM applications have been on the rise.

Background : The EUIPO was created in 1994 to offer instruments that would contribute to the effective functioning of the internal market. This was achieved by providing EUTMs and as of 2003 RCDs.
