The Korean Intellectual Property Office announced that it holds the 6th Korean Language Trademark Contest. The event has been held since 2016 to encourage the application and use of pure Korean language trademarks hosted by the Korean Intellectual Property Office and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture Sports and Tourism and the National Institute of Korean Language.

From August 5th (Thurs) to August 23rd (Mon) applicants can apply their own trademark or recommend another persons trademark through the website of the Korean Intellectual Property Office (www.kipo.go.kr).

Trademarks to be applied and recommended are pure Korean language trademarks whose registration is valid as of August 2021 and trademarks imitating other trademarks trademarks held by those suspected of preoccupying malicious trademarks trademarks in dispute such as judgment and litigation trademarks that are not currently used and trademarks that have already been awarded at similar contests will be excluded from the award.

For the trademarks applied an Areumdaun (Beautiful) Trademark (Prize of Minister of Culture Sports and Tourism: 1 trademark) a Goun (Lovely) Trade mark (Prize of Head of the Korean Intellectual Property Office: 1 trademark) and Jeongdaun (Friendly) Trademarks (Prize of Director of National Institute of Korean Language: 5 trademarks) will be selected and awarded by a Korean language expert recommended by the National Institute of the Korean Language based on the evaluation criteria such as the regularity and uniqueness of Korean and combined with the online voting rankings of patent customers and examiners.

Mok Sung-ho Director of the Trademark & Design Evaluation Bureau at the Korean Intellectual Property Office said A Korean language trademark that is easy to call easy to remember and well reflects product characteristics is likely to be a good trademark. We hope that this contest will increase interests in Korean language trademarks.

Meanwhile for the last award-winning works Aishinnara (means so excited) a brand selling stationary items of the first contest 2016 draws attention.

In the second contest there is Danawa (Everything can be found) which won the Areumdaun (Beautiful) Trademark Award which is the Prize of Minister of Culture Sports and Tourism. Wholesale and retail sales and brokerage and sales agencies are its representative designated products.

In 2018 at the third contest Muroreum (Rivers are being filled with water as the snow is being melted) won the Jeongdaun (Friendly) Trademark Award with cosmetics and soap as its representative designated products.

At the forth contest in 2019 Deowisanyang (Heat Hunting) won the same prize. It is the ice cream product that everyone knows.
