The Startup to Youth Year-Dream School has opened at Spark Plus in Hongdae which provides intensive artificial intelligence education to young people and trains them to be artificial intelligence technical personnel for startups.
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Minister Kwon Chil-seung hereinafter the MSS) said it has selected 100 young people under the age of 29 who would participate in the Startup to Youth Year-Dream School and held a non-contact orientation session on August 2nd (Mon).
As the transition to digital economics is accelerated recently the demand for artificial intelligence developers in related industries is steadily increasing. Especially now startups are leading the digital economic transformation therefore in order for our economy to grow it is the most important moment for startups to secure AI developers. However startups have continued to complain that it is difficult to hire excellent AI developers because they are competing with large companies. In response the MSS has opened the Year-Dream School which trains young job seekers as artificial intelligence developers who can be immediately assigned to the field linking employment.
Regardless of academic backgrounds or majors it is a program that anyone under the age of 29 can apply for and grow into a startup AI developer. Year-Dream has two meanings: Connecting startup and youth and Achieving the dream of employment and recruitment through intensive education during a year.
In addition the Year-Dream School has expanded the proven curriculum of the Global Startup Academy that produced excellent AI startups last year specializing it for AI developers. It is a business style personnel fostering project that aims to complete four-year courses of AI-related departments of universities by proceeding 8 hours of hard training per day and even conducts actual projects. This year it will run for eight months as a pilot operation and the field experts such as NHN and Google Cloud as well as professors from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) the top artificial intelligence experts will participate as lecturers. In order to produce the best trainees students who do not faithfully participate in the curriculum or fail to keep up with the progress will be dropped in the middle by checking attendance rates and occasional mid-term evaluations. It also connects trainees ventures and start-ups frequently so that trainees can get a job in venture companies or startups immediately after completion.
The recruitment of trainees from June 22 to July 19 showed a high response from young people on the spot with a competition rate of 4.6:1 despite the age limit of the age of 29 and the intensive education of eight hours a day. The orientation was conducted without contact in consideration of the COVID-19 situation followed by an introduction to the step-by-step curriculum for the next eight months heated questions and answers from students and aspirations for the participation.
Park Byung-kyu who says he has been wandering for about two years as he stopped his studies due to personal matters and failed in business said I want to focus my passion on my favorite field and become an artificial intelligence developer motivating himself saying I want to unfold it in a simple dream project. Also Lim Ho-kyun who majored in physics and mathematics and has a masters degree in physics said My major is not directly related to artificial intelligence but if I combine the knowledge of artificial intelligence and big database that I acquired from this project with the existing mathematical and statistical capabilities I could have more advantages than others. I think when I get a job at a startup in the future I will be able to achieve exponential development over time.
Minister Kwon Chil-seung of the MSS said in a video congratulatory address We have established this Year-Dream school to foster young people as the best artificial intelligence technology personnel so that innovative ventures startups and young people can grow together. When you graduate all of you will have grown into artificial intelligence technology personnel equivalent to experienced workers and innovative ventures and startups that will lead the future will be waiting for you.
The Year-Dream school is a long-term intensive education course that combines theory and practical experience for eight months from August 3rd (Tue) to March next year.
