The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries successfully completed the 4th Asia-Pacific e-Navigation underway International Conference

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (Minister Moon Sung Hyuk) held ‘4th e-Navigation underway International Conference in Asia-Pacific areas’ at the Sejong Government Convention Center in September.
The Asia-Pacific conference was formed by Republic of Korea and has been held annually also it has been recognized as one of the worlds top three e-Navigation International Conferences along with conferences held in Europe and North America.
This year the conference broadcasted online live using Korea’s video conference platform technology to prevent the spread out of Covid19 and more than 700 officials from international organizations such as International Maritime Organization (IMO) International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) International Association of Lighthouse Authorities (IALA) and government officials academical and industrial officials in over 30 countries from Asia-Pacific Europe and North America attended via online and completed successfully.
The conference discussed △ e-Navigation for the future △ Harmonious services of maritime digital technology △ Challenges for maritime digitalization and international cooperation measures on the topic of Cooperation for harmonious maritime digitalization’. Furthermore there was an official demonstration introducing Korean e-Navigation service and the maritime digital service international information sharing platform which is a service operating system (Maritime Connectivity Platform : International information sharing platform for continuous e-Navigation service worldwide 24/7 co-developed by Korea Sweden and Denmark) as a special session during the conference.
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries is evaluated that they have prepared for the fourth industrial revolution in maritime sector and particularly Korea has expanded international consensus for maritime digitalization and secured their spots by leading the related international governance and presiding the discussion on technical development for international digitalization and international cooperation.
It is also highly expected to create national growth engines by fostering occupying the future maritime digitalization markets by introducing and promoting ‘SMART-Navigation’ Korean e-Navigation service using high-speed maritime wireless network (LTE-M) as the first in the world and internationally branding it.
Minjong Kim Director of Maritime Safety said This conference is an important stage to show Koreas capabilities of technological development that succeeded the worlds first commercial technology for Korean e-Navigation services and reputation of maritime digital technology as leading country. He also added “Taking this opportunity we will work hard to make Korea to lead not only e-Navigation sector but also international maritime digital technology sector.”
The e-Navigation is a maritime navigation offering a real time guide in the ocean and safety information including collision stranding and danger alert in a digital system like a navigation on automobiles and the International Maritime Organization decided to adopt it to prevent accidents in the ocean caused by human errors.
