Apple is accused of its potential invasion of privacy after the application of the new child safety technology.

According to multiple sources including the Wall Street Journal later this year Apple is distributing software with child safety features to users in the United States.

Software named ‘Neural Match’ will be automatically downloaded with the iOS 15 update. It will inform the judicial authority after detecting images that are potentially Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM).

Only photos uploaded to iCloud will be affected by Neural Match. The Messages app will blur the image and warn about sensitive content. Also it will let the parents know if such content is passed to or sent by their children.

Apple informed about the software to some scholars of the United States by video conference. Apple said that it is just a part of developing child safety system.

It is interpreted as a result of assistance to criminal investigation of the States. The US judicial authorities pressed Apple to cooperate to their criminal investigation since iPhone is abused due to its high security.

CNN explained this as a halfway meeting of user privacy and cooperation to authorities. TechCrunch agreed to the need of cooperation to investigation while pointing out that there may be privacy issues after the application.

Apple had their privacy first policy as a strength compared to its rivals and this may be weakened after the update. Apple said that the privacy of users will be secured even after the update and the data stored will be remained private.
