Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries Selects Collaborators to Share the Diverse Charms and Experiences of Fishing Villages

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (Minister Kang Doo-young) has announced the selection of four YouTube Collaborators for Fishing Village Life (hereafter referred to as Fishing Village Creators) who will introduce the real-life aspects of fishing villages including fishing operations and village life from a citizen’s perspective.

Fishing Village Creators are individuals who have moved to fishing villages and will produce videos showcasing the various charms and experiences of village life. From May 13 to 22 the Ministry conducted a public recruitment for these creators. Through an evaluation process involving private experts one creator was selected for each of the four categories: offshore fishing aquaculture licensed fishing and village relocation.

The selected creators are:

Offshore Fishing: Bogeunbogeun Fishermans Wife (YouTube channel name)
Aquaculture: Kim Jin-kyu Ssogari TV
Licensed Fishing: Modern Haenyeo
Village Relocation: Hwangdo Village Head
These creators will publish related videos on their YouTube channels from June to November over a six-month period. Following their activities the Ministry will select two outstanding creators as Star Creators awarding them with a Minister’s Commendation prize money and automatic selection as creators for next year.

Additionally to ensure that more citizens can access the videos released by the Fishing Village Creators the Ministry will hold an online event from Sunday June 16 to Saturday June 22. Participants who subscribe to and comment on the YouTube channels of the four Fishing Village Creators or the Comprehensive Center for Returning to Fishing and Rural Life’s YouTube channel will be entered into a draw to win prizes. Detailed participation methods can be found on the website of the Korea Fisheries and Fishing Village Development Institute (www.sealife.go.kr) and their Facebook page (facebook.com/sealife9597).

Minister Kang Doo-young stated Our fishing villages rich with diverse charms and the scent of human life hold endless potential for development as tourism resources. He added We will make policy efforts to promote the attractions of our fishing villages through accessible communication channels so that many citizens can visit and experience them.
