Samsung Electronics Unveils 231 Patents for SMEs and Mid-Sized Companies
Applications Open for the 2024 MOTIE-Samsung Electronics Technology Sharing Program
The Ministry of Trade Industry and Energy (Minister Ahn Duk-geun) announced the 2024 MOTIE-Samsung Electronics Technology Sharing Program revealing the technologies to be shared and opening applications from June 25th (Tuesday) to August 6th (Tuesday). The selected technologies include 231 patents from Samsung Electronics that are expected to be highly valuable for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and mid-sized companies.
The technology sharing initiative launched in 2013 aims to enhance the technological competitiveness and innovative growth of SMEs and mid-sized companies by transferring unused technologies from large corporations and public institutions to these businesses at no cost.
Key technologies available through this program include patents such as a wearable robot that measures signals from the wearers scalp to calculate current walking speed and outputs assistive torque to achieve a target walking speed and a display device patent that allows objects on a flexible display screen to move and execute app functions with just a bending motion of the screen.
Samsung Electronics which has participated in the technology sharing initiative annually since 2015 has transferred 1014 technologies to 559 companies by last year demonstrating its commitment to shared growth with SMEs and mid-sized companies. An exemplary case is Keyword Lab Co. Ltd. which received technology for removing reflective light in images from Samsung Electronics in 2020. This technology enabled the development of a new camera lens module product resulting in 510 million KRW in sales and the creation of eight new jobs in 2023 marking it as a notable success story of Samsungs technology sharing program.
Applications can be submitted through the registration website (www.tech-storm.io/techshare) and selected applicants will undergo a review process to be chosen for the technology transfer. A Samsung Electronics Technology Sharing Information Session will also be held on July 16th (Tuesday) at the El Tower in Yangjae Seoul for interested SMEs and mid-sized companies.
Lee Min-woo Director of the Industrial Technology Convergence Policy Division stated Utilizing the excellent technologies provided such as those in the fields of mobile devices displays and medical devices can help companies efficiently develop new products and technologies by integrating them with their existing technologies. We encourage active applications from SMEs and mid-sized companies seeking to practice open innovation through the transfer of these superior technologies.
