KIPO Listens to Field Experts to Support Securing Superiority through Patent System Improvement
Hosting IP Experts Roundtable for Patent System Improvement with Academia Legal and Industry Experts (June 24)
The Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) announced that it will host the IP Experts Roundtable for Patent System Improvement on June 24th (Monday) at 10:30 AM at the KIPO Seoul Office in Gangnam-gu Seoul. The roundtable aims to discuss ways to improve the patent system in line with the pace of technological innovation with intellectual property experts from various fields.
The morning session will feature discussions with experts from academia and the legal field including professors of intellectual property law judges lawyers and patent attorneys. The afternoon session will involve major companies with high patent application volumes and leading firms in key technology sectors such as Samsung Electronics LG Energy Solution as well as semiconductor bio and pharmaceutical leaders*.
Among the top 10 companies with the most patent applications in 2023: Samsung Electronics LG Energy Solution Hyundai Motor Company Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) LG Electronics.
Leading companies in key technology sectors: Jusung Engineering (semiconductor equipment) Samsung Bioepis (bio) GC Pharma (pharmaceuticals) SK Telecom (IT).
KIPO will introduce recent changes in key examination policies including the accelerated examination system for advanced technologies such as semiconductors and secondary batteries and the interview system for communication with examiners. Discussions will cover recent improvements in patent law and systems such as:
Easing requirements for reinstating patents unintentionally expired to enhance patent holder rights.
Improving the inventor correction system to ensure the true inventor is credited.
Measures to invalidate patents obtained through deliberate deception to ensure fair use of the patent system.
Participants are expected to provide KIPO with real-world concerns and problems they face along with expert solutions. The collected opinions will be used to discover and develop policies to improve the system and support companies in enhancing their intellectual property competitiveness to survive and grow in a highly competitive environment.
