Intellectual property serves as a lever for small businesses to enter the market. The general publics awareness of intellectual property needs to be increased.

Hosted by the Presidential Committee on National Intellectual Property the 3rd Intellectual Property Day event was held online on the 4th. The event was held non-face-to-face to prevent the spread of corona 19.
After the ceremony the Second Intellectual Property Talk Concert was held under the theme of the value of intellectual property in the era of the fourth industrial revolution. The talk concert was attended by Kwak Jae-do the cultural technology producer of the Korea Creative Content Agency Jung Sung-chang the director of the Institute for Intellectual Property and Innovation Ecosystem a YouTuber Jocoding who specializes in program coding and a YouTuber JunYeon who conducts IT and tech-related contents.
As in the first episode the second talk concert took time to solve problems in real-time and discuss pending issues using the pull application and broadcast them live on various social media platforms such as YouTube Kakao TV Facebook of the National Intellectual Property Commission Naver TV of the Ministry of Science and ICT YouTube and Facebook of Presidential Council on Intellectual Property.
Below is an interview with Chung Sung-chang director of the Institute for Intellectual Property and Innovation Ecosystem who participated in the event as a panelist.
Q1. Please introduce yourself.
Director Jeong Seong-chang: I am in charge of the intellectual property and innovation ecosystem.
Q2. Why do you think intellectual property is important?
Director Chung Sung-chang: Intellectual property is important in todays startup ecosystem because it serves as a lever for small companies without large capital to enter the market.
Q3. What do you think is the best intellectual property in the world? Why?
Director Jung Sung-chang: I think it is James Watts steam engine that was patented in 1769. I must be the most powerful idea patent in human history.
Q4. If you possess any intellectual property such as patents designs trademarks copyrights trade secrets etc. please introduce it to us.
Director Chung Sung-chang: I would have to say they are a book titled Intellectual Property War in 2005 and another one that will be published this year.
Q5. What do you think Korea should strive to become an intellectual property powerhouse?
Director Chung Sung-chang: I think the system and policy have changed and improved a lot. Companies should understand and utilize it well in the future. Plus it is necessary to raise the general peoples awareness and encourage them to respect the intellectual property which we can call.. a kind of culture.
Q6. Last question! What would you describe an intellectual property in one word?
Director Chung Sung-chang: To me intellectual property is a culture. Thats because members of society think it is an order attitude and custom that is made under the universal agreement.
Jeong Seong-chang worked for the Korean Intellectual Property Office for 21 years and is currently the director of the Institute of Intellectual Property and Innovation Ecosystem. His books include Koreas New Industry and Knowledge and Information Revolution (2001) The War of Intellectual Property (Samsung Economic Research Institute) and Economics of Business-to-Business Chasing (2008).
