Korea-Germany Forestry Cooperation 50th Anniversary Commemorated with Forestry Technology Workshop
The Korea Forest Service (Director Nam Sung-Hyun) announced on the 3rd that a forestry technology workshop was held at the Gangneung Training Center of the National Forestry Cooperative Federation to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Korea-Germany forestry cooperation. The event was organized in collaboration with the German Embassy in Korea the Hanns Seidel Foundation and the Korean-German Forestry Association.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Korea-Germany forestry cooperation agreement signed in July 1974 which enabled Korea to achieve successful forest restoration by adopting advanced German forestry technologies.
The Gangneung Training Center where the workshop took place was established in 1982 with approximately one million marks of capital support from Germany. It began operations as the Forestry Machinery Training Center under the Korea-Germany Forestry Management Project.
During the event a ceremony was held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Korea-Germany cooperation followed by demonstrations of high-performance forestry machinery including harvesters forwarders and tower yarders. Participants also discussed the future development of Korea’s forestry machinery and ways to promote forestry technology.
Director Nam Sung-Hyun of the Korea Forest Service stated “The Gangneung Training Center is a cradle of modern forestry technology in Korea currently training 4000 forestry technicians annually. By leveraging the historical legacy of Korea-Germany forestry cooperation we aim to become a global forestry leader by transferring Korean forestry technology to third countries.”
