Public Health Centers Take Responsibility for Community Health

The 2024 Local Government Health Promotion Project Performance Conference and Symposium aimed at encouraging health promotion efforts of public health centers and sharing best practices was held on the 5th at The-K Hotel Seoul Convention Center.

Hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and organized by the Korea Health Promotion Institute the event was themed Healthy Community Beginning of National Happiness.

Approximately 1000 health promotion project managers from city provincial and district public health centers nationwide attended the event which was divided into two parts: an award ceremony and a symposium. In the first part a total of 90 awards were presented including Ministers Commendations to 34 outstanding local governments such as the Gwangjin-gu Health Center in Seoul and 56 organizations and individuals who contributed significantly to project operations.

The second part involved sharing the Ministry of Health and Welfares policy directions for integrated community health promotion projects showcasing excellent cases from local governments and discussing the development of mobile healthcare projects and smart health management R&D initiatives.

Jeong Yoon-Soon Director-General of Health Policy at the Ministry of Health and Welfare noted “Last year was a pivotal period for overcoming the COVID-19 crisis and laying the foundation for the re-launch of health promotion projects. I extend my gratitude for your passion and dedication in difficult circumstances and congratulate todays awardees.”

Kim Heon-Ju President of the Korea Health Promotion Institute stated “We appreciate the efforts of those working at the forefront in local areas. The Korea Health Promotion Institute will continue to strengthen cooperation between the government and local governments to further promote health initiatives.”

Following the awards ceremony a celebratory performance was held by the popera group Phantom Popera consisting of a baritone tenor and soprano.
